This music could date back from as long as 1000 when the Apache first came to the American Southwest, but it is more likely this music comes from later like closer to the late 1500's when the Spanish came to this area of the US. This song may have been written for entertainment purposes, such as to be danced to. I can imagine vividly an Indian tribe dancing and chanting to this drum beat while around a fire.
